Teachers are tired of backtracking after summer break. A survey released this week of more than 500 teachers reveals it takes them weeks to reacquaint students with the previous year's skills after they have been out of school for the summer.
The survey from the National Summer Learning Association finds it takes two-thirds of teachers about three to four weeks to re-teach the information. Another 24-percent say it takes them five weeks or more.
National Summer Learning Association CEO Gary Huggins adds students who spend time reading or attending summer learning programs can avoid much of the learning loss.
