The American Red Cross – Grand Canyon Chapter – will hold a special safety day today (Monday 21) as part of their Martin Luther King Junior Day of Service project.
The Red Cross is hoping to reach some 275 homes in Yuma to inform residents about fire safety in the home. Most of the project today (Monday 21) will focus on installing and maintaining smoke detectors.
It is estimated that some 62-percent of house fire deaths are due to inoperable or no smoke detectors installed in the home.
Ten volunteers are expected to help with the program. They will begin at 8am at the Yuma Private Industry Council offices on West 16th Street and head out to the neighborhoods about an hour later.
