After only more than a little over a week of ownership, the new owners of the Southgate Mall announced their intent to demolish the majority of the building and told tenants they have 30 days to vacate.
Kornwasser Shopping Center Properties made the announcement on Wednesday (9). Yuma City Administrator Greg Wilkinson issued a statement concerning the announcement. He stated that Yuma has been trying to attract a company to invest in the Southgate Mall area.
The city has worked with Kornwasser to put together a redevelopment agreement and he believes the investment in Yuma is a big key to revitalize the area known as the Big Curve.
The new plans do not include the larger anchor stores of Sears and Big Five Sporting Goods.
