Private property owners south of Flagstaff are looking to Congress to fix a 1960s land survey error. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management recently discovered that 25 properties in Mountainaire are encroaching onto the Coconino National Forest.
Incorrect corner monuments had been used in the 1960 land survey.
Some of the parcels are undeveloped but property owners made improvements in other areas because they believed the land was theirs.
U.S. Representatives Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick and Republican Paul Gosar have introduced legislation that would convey two small parcels of land to those residents.
