U.S. safety officials are requiring the federal agency that operates Hoover Dam to fix 58 health and safety violations found in recent inspections at the massive Colorado River water retention and hydroelectric power plant east of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Interior Department officials with the Bureau of Reclamation say they are working on it.
Inspectors found toxic lead contamination, electrical hazards, inadequate personal protective equipment and machinery guards, and the potential for overexposure to cancer-causing agents.
About 250 people work at the dam, and the hydropower plant provides electricity to customers in California, Arizona and Nevada.
