The Yuma Police Department says one person was arrested following an apparent hit and run accident on Saturday morning. Police say they received a report of a speeding vehicle in the 2200 block of West 16th Street. Police observed a speeding vehicle in that area, bounce off of the curb near the Arizona Donut Bakery nearly missing a local jogger.
The Ford SUV continued traveling northbound and appeared to be complying with the traffic stop at 14th Street and Avenue “B”. Once in the intersection the Ford SUV began fleeing from the officer.
During the chase, the suspect forced a Chevrolet Blazer to collide into the front of a residence causing structural damage. There were no injuries reported by occupants of the residence.
The driver of the Ford SUV, later identified as 20-year-old Jonathan Solis, fled on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter. Solis was later booked into the Yuma County Detention Facility.
