The department arrived to find power lines down and arcing on approximately six mobile homes. The arcing lines caused a fire at one home, and a small brush fire. All occupants were able to safely evacuate the homes. The power was shut down and the fires were extinguished.
There was minor damage to one home and a storage shed. It was determined that a “Dust Devil” type gust of wind ripped away a metal awning and threw it onto nearby power lines causing them to short out and start the fires.
Several homes were out of power and Arizona Public Service personnel worked through the afternoon to restore power.
