The Yuma City Council and the Yuma County Board of Supervisors will meet today (Tuesday 5) in a joint working session in order to discuss what to do on the future of animal control issues.
The county is considering a countywide program that would include the cities of San Luis, Wellton and Yuma.
A new building would be constructed to house the animals picked up and be used as a transitional facility for them. The cost of the new facility has been estimated to be $1.5 million.
Pickup of stray animals has increased in both the city of Yuma and Yuma County in recent months. The cost to house the extra animals for the Humane Society of Yuma County has gone up considerably.
The meeting to discuss solutions will be held at 5pm today (Tuesday 5) at the Yuma City Hall.
