Drug Smugglers Apprehended South Of Gila Bend

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested five drug smugglers and seized 209 pounds of marijuana Sunday. Agents using night vision equipment detected and subsequently apprehended the smugglers ten miles south of Gila Bend.  The group, comprised of Mexican nationals, entered the United States illegally through the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. County Approves Purchase And Renovation Of Historic Building On Main Street

United States Representative Ron Barber and former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords are scheduled to be among the speakers at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., to honor Gabriel "Gabe" Zimmerman.  The 30-year-old Zimmerman was Giffords' outreach director until he was killed in the January 2011 shooting rampage in Tucson.  Six people died and 13 others were wounded, including Giffords and Barber.  ... US Airways Flight Diverted To Phoenix

Authorities say a US Airways flight from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, California was diverted to Phoenix after an unusual odor was detected in the cockpit.  Federal Aviation Administration officials say US Airways flight 797 landed safely at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.  The agency is working with US Airways to determine the cause of the odor.  It was not ... Couple Arrested On Narcotics Charges

The Yuma County Narcotics Task Force arrested a couple Friday following a conducted surveillance of the area.  Police say 41-year-old Christine Visser and 36-year-old Brian Visser were stopped in their vehicle and police then conducted a search.  Police found methamphetamine with a street value of over $780, cocaine with a street value of $290, marijuana worth $20 and nearly $800 ...
