The Yuma County Board of Supervisors held their first meeting of the year on Monday (7). The meeting started with the five member board and other county officials, including new Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot, being sworn in. Gregory S. Ferguson will serve as chairman and Russell McCloud will serve as Vice-Chairman for the coming year. Russell T. “Russ” Clark is a new member of the commission this year.
The board on Monday (7) discussed the language in the policy concerning the employee Call Duty pay and Supplemental Benefits plan. Members of the board felt the language contradicted itself. Most of the language is from Arizona Statue Laws, which makes it very specific as to who qualifies who gets benefits while they are disabled. However, the way the county statue is written up, it is made to appear that they would get a raise when they returned to work. The board tabled the issue until clarification is made.
In another note, it was announced that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer will be in Yuma to deliver the Annual State of the State Address on January, 24th from Arizona Western College.
