Attempted Child Abduction In Yuma

(Yuma, AZ) — On Thursday November 8, 2012 at about 7:54 am Police responded to a call of attempted child abduction in the 2000 Block of South Avenue A.

The investigation revealed at about 7:35 am the victim a 12 year old male was walking to school when a male subject came up from behind, called to him and then grabbed him. The victim fought and was able to escape.  The victim ran to the Circle K at 2089 S. Avenue A. The suspect was seen leaving the area. The victim’s family was notified and a short time later they called police. The victim received minor injuries.

The initial information led us to suspect a registered sex offender, 19 year old Jason Riddle. Officers located and detained Riddle in the 200 block West 5th Street at about 1 pm.  Riddle was interviewed in reference to this investigation, but cleared of involvement.  He did however, have an outstanding felony warrant in reference to failing to register as a sex offender.  He will be booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.

The Yuma Police Department urges the public to be vigilant and report suspicious persons matching the description below.

  • White male
  • Teen to young adult
  • Approximately 6’1” and 210 lbs
  • Short Brown hair & Brown eyes
  • A tattoo and or scar on his face. 
  • Last seen wearing a long sleeve black shirt, and black shorts, and red and white shoes.
