Arizona Game And Fish Aim To Prevent The Spread Of Mussels And Invasive Species

The Arizona Game and Fish Department says it will be cracking down on boaters starting next year in an effort to stop the spread of mussels and other invasive species. The agency says law enforcement officers with the department will start issuing citations to boaters who do not clean, drain and dry their boats when they leave mussel-infested waters.
Since October, Game and Fish officers have been educating boaters at Lake Pleasant and Lake Havasu. They have been distributing literature on the danger of mussels. The mussels can ruin boat motors and clog water intakes, such as pipes and screens on power and water-treatment plants.
